Mark Horvath
Mark’s message, coming from an individual considered by many to be a promising, talented, and gifted hockey player seemingly bound for the National Hockey League, is directed to today’s youth & the recovery community in a very relevant manner. Athletic success alone, a full scholarship to Providence College and early success in the international business world weren’t enough motivation to keep Mark from a continuing downward spiral of addiction.
He was among the leading goal scorers & points leaders in Minnesota his senior year of high school, as the captain on the 1983 Hill-Murray High School Undefeated State Champion Hockey Team. Yet the repeated abuse of drugs & alcohol, ultimately cost Mark his scholarship, a professional hockey future and promising business career. The demise of personal relationships combined with the loss of trust and respect of his family, due to his complete disregard for them, took a heavy toll.
After 23 years of chemical abuse, more than a dozen arrests, & multiple treatments Mark has finally experienced successful recovery. The combination of a strong spiritual foundation, mentorship, & a rigorous recovery program has contributed to Mark’s new found life. He currently is the Men’s Program Director of Serenity Village, a faith based ministry that provides transitional housing for recovering addicts. In addition, Mark is a full-time father to His six year old daughter & is an Account Manager in the Transportation / Logistics Industry.
His powerful message of Perseverance, Restoration, & Hope is intended to impact young people on decisions they all will have to make in a manner that is understood by all.
Mark’s Reflections:
· Drugs & alcohol will rob you of your morals, integrity, and values.
· My passion is to describe and illustrate the progression, compromises, and ultimately the consequences associated with addiction.
· Determined to explain the physical, emotional, & spiritual destruction brought on by long-term abuse of drugs & alcohol.
· Offer hope to everyone battling addiction no matter what circumstances they may be facing
